Article : What is Beauty therapy?

It is hard to find a true definition of beauty as everyone has their own perception of what beauty means but after reading many different definitions. I feel the following provides a simple but accurate description.
BEAUTY-A quality or feature that gives pleasure to the mind or senses.
THERAPY- A healing power or quality

Put the two words together and it describes what we as beauty therapists are hoping to achieve, using our practical skills and knowledge to provide a therapeutic treatment for our clients to achieve outcomes that will improve and enhance facial and body conditions, relax, destress and improve their confidence.

Clients are becoming far more discerning when its come to choosing a salon or spa. When clients visit a salon they will have specific hopes and expecations. There could be many reasons for them to visit the salon. whatever the reason or how long the clients stay, their visit must be the best it possibly can be.

Beauty therapists are professionals and professional practise is an important aspect of the service you are providing. The most successful salons with a repuation for excellence provide a professional service of higher standards.

Quality must be evident in all aspects of business. You will be expected to present a professional apperance and to provide high quality treatments. You must treat the client with courtesy and respect; provide a relaxing enviroment that is clean and safe while making the client feel comfortable and welcome.

The skin is an ever- changing organ that contains many sppecialized cells and structures. The skin functions as a protective barrier that interfaces with a sometimes- hostile enviroment. It is also very involved in maintaining the proper temperature for the body to fuction well. It gathers sensory information from the enviroment, and plays an active role in the immune system protecting us from disease.
